Dental Implants

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a titanium root and a crown made to match your own teeth. Treatment usually takes around three to six months from placement to final fitting, and every implant we place is covered by our three-year guarantee (terms available in practice).

What it is and who it's for

A dental implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone that acts as an artificial tooth root, topped with a crown or bridge made to match your own teeth. It suits patients missing one or more teeth who have sufficient bone density and healthy gums to support an implant, confirmed at consultation. In some situations we can replace multiple teeth with just one implant, which can support a bridge of four or fewer teeth in a row.

What it can help with

  • Maintaining facial structure
  • Preventing jaw shrinkage

How treatment works

  1. Consultation and planning

We assess your bone density and gum health and talk through whether an implant, a bridge or a denture fits your case best. Sedation is available for nervous patients: ask at your consultation.

  2. Placing the implant

The implant itself is a titanium post that acts as a replacement tooth root. It’s usually placed in around an hour, under local anaesthetic.

  3. Healing, then your crown or bridge

After roughly three months of healing, we take impressions and send them to the laboratory to make your bespoke crown or bridge, fitted onto the implant once it is ready.

What you can expect

  • A fixed replacement that looks and functions like your own tooth
  • One implant can sometimes support a bridge of up to four replacement teeth
  • Supports neighbouring teeth rather than relying on them
  • All implant work is covered by our three-year guarantee, with an option to extend it once it ends (terms available in practice)
  • The implant itself carries Nobel Biocare’s own manufacturer warranty, replacing the implant for as long as you have it (covers the product only, not treatment costs — full terms on request)

Common questions

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone that acts as an artificial tooth root, providing a stable foundation for a replacement crown or bridge.

Does having an implant placed hurt?

Most patients report only minimal discomfort during the implant procedure. The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, and sedation is available for anyone who feels anxious.

How long do implants last?

With proper care, regular check-ups and good oral hygiene, a dental implant can last for many years; the work is covered by our three-year guarantee, with an option to extend it once it ends (terms available in practice).

Is everyone suitable for implants?

Not everyone. You need sufficient bone density and healthy gums to support an implant, and our dentists assess your teeth and jaw at consultation and talk through the right solution for you.
